Ah, Grand Central STATION. Don't tell me it's a gald darn terminal. Terminal is when you're going to die. If it looks like a train station, acts like a train station, and certainly smells like a train station, it's a got dang train station. Harumph!

It's Grand Central Terminal. No trains go beyond there. All tracks terminate at the gates. Grand Central Station is another entity that existed over 100 years ago when there were trains that went below 42nd st through there. By arguing that it should be called Grand Central STATION, you are ignoring reality and creating ambiguity.

Also, if it was Grand Central STATION, it wouldn't be the largest train station in the world. It is my understanding that it IS presently the largest train TERMINAL in the world (but may be surpassed soon by a terminal being built somewhere in India)

A terminal state is an end, finish, completion. I'm sorry if you have associated the word with an important person to you dying. Language contains words that have connotations based upon context. In this context, "Terminal" should not imply death.

Would it help your sensibilities to call it Grand Central TERMINUS instead of terminal because of the connotations you ascribe to the word?

I think there is a point where obsession with minutia becomes mental illness.

DynoMutt, I've been harping on that matter to chemboy for years, who should know that lack of attention to detail can be a disaster considering the field he is in!

Besides, calling it Grand Central Station around New Yorkers tells them you're not a native and just a tourist!
